директор МП нижегородское метро Яушев Олег Анатольевич

1970 - a feasibility study concerning metro construction in the city of Gorky was made by Metrogiprotrans and Giprokommundortrans engineering institutes.

October, 1973 - Metrogiprotrans specialists began to design the first metro line section for the city of Gorky.

November, 1975 - the technical project of the first metro line section was completed.

July 15, 1977 - USSR Council of Ministers signed the decree concerning the construction of the metro in Gorky.

December, 1977 - the regional committee of Gorky approved the beginning of the metro construction.

December 17, 197 - the beginning of construction works.

Gorky Metro was set up under the decree of the Ministry of railways on July 30, 1984.

The main office of Gorky Metro was established in September, 1984.

The first line section of the metro (9,6 km) was built from December, 1977 till August, 1987.

February, 1985 - the Ministry of Railways issued a decree about the inauguration of the first metro line section.

One of the special features of the metro construction process was the use of solid pressed concrete lining in water-rich soil.

Formed in 1984, the metro staff had their training in a technical college of the city of Gorky. The first train drivers, station managers, electricians gained their experience in Leningrad, Moscow and Kharkiv metro systems.

The inauguration of the metro system was possible thanks to the help of several companies:

- Gorkov trust made hydrogeological surveys and drilling,

- Gorkovgrazhdanproekt coordinated the architectural design of the stations,

- Promstroiproekt (Gorkov design workshop) was responsible for the architecture of the stations,

- Krasnoe Sormovo plant made the formwork for concrete vaults.

February, 1985 - the Ministry of Railways issued the plan of bringing the first line section into passenger service.

September, 1985 - 3 metro trains arrived in Gorky from Moscow.

November 19, 1985 - the celebration of the inauguration of the first line section between Moskovskaya and Proletarskaya stations.

November 20, 1985 - the first metro line section came into passenger service.

August 9, 1987 - the line section between Proletarskaya and Komsomolskaya stations came into operation.

December 20, 1989 - the inauguration of the line section between Komsomolskaya and Park Kultury stations.

December 20, 1993 - the introduction of Sormovskaya line (from Moskovskaya to Burnakovskaya stations).

September 9, 2002 - the inauguration of Burevestnik station (Sormovskaya line).

Today, Nizhny Novgorod metro system consists of 2 lines - Avtozavodskaya with 10 stations and Sormovskaya with 3 stations and 37 km of tunnels. The operational length of the lines is 15,5 km, with the total length of 46,8 km and 7,4 km of yard tracks.
